automakers

I can't believe so many supposedly smart people say our automakers are not needed for national defense. They say that automakers are not building tanks, planes, or military vehicles like they were during the second world war. True enough, but they weren't doing so in the 1930's either. They sure changed when they were needed. It's kind of like Rumsfeld thinking that wars could be won with joysticks instead of soldiers, we know how that turned out.
